The Eastman Selects had two chances to advance to the second round of the Manitoba Female "AAA" Midget Hockey League playoffs thanks to a 5-2 victory over the Yellowhead Chiefs this past Sunday in Shoal Lake.

Now they have one.

Miranda Cook stopped all 32 shots she faced as the defending champion Chiefs blanked Eastman 5-0 Tuesday night at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.

"It was kind of disappointing," said Selects captain Lauren Warkentin. "We just came out flat and couldn't get it going which was unfortunate."

Karissa Cullum and McKiya Mazur scored 18 seconds apart in the second period to extend Yellowhead's lead to 3-0 and that was more enough for the Chiefs who evened the best-of-five quarterfinal at two games apiece.

Eastman forward Paige Dundas says they're not concerned about playing the deciding fifth game on the road.

"We were just there. We got five goals on them there. They got five goals on us here. It's going to be an experience. We just got to go out hard, be prepared and have a lot of energy."

The Selects outshot Yellowhead 32-27 but there were very few quality scoring chances for the home team in game four.

"They wanted it more," said Eastman head coach Bill Bram. "They won the battles. Give them credit. They've been to the finals the past couple of years and they know what it's like. It's part of maturing. We go back there now. We've beaten them there. We'll regroup. It's one game - winner take all. It's not going to be easy."

Game five goes Saturday in Shoal Lake and the winner will face the Westman Wildcats in the semifinals.
