The Eastman Female Midget AAA Selects had a pair of games over the weekend and came out with one win and one loss.

Starting On Time Saturday Night

On Saturday night, they battled Yellowhead and were able to come away with a convincing 5-2 win.

The offence got started in the first period for the selects as they found the back of the net less than three minutes into the game. Ryann Suchy from Kylie Lesuk and Alex Bednar made it 1-0.

More goals came in the opening period as Suchy scored her second of the game from Maddy DesRosiers and Camille Enns.

Desrosiers and Suchy connected again in the first but this time in reverse as Suchy set up DesRosiers making it a 3-0 lead for Eastman.

In the second, Yellowhead managed to get going a bit and both teams traded chances.

Yellowhead was able to bury two goals and make it a 3-2 game after 40 minutes of play.

In the final frame, a quick goal from Sydney Stotski added insurance for the Selects who led 4-2. The assists on the big goal went to Jade Giesbrecht and Marlies Ilot.

Kylie Lesuk put the game out of reach as she capped off a two-point night with a goal with just over five minutes remaining in the game. Lesuk dug the puck out of a crowd in her own end and went coast-to-coast.

Emma Plett was solid when called upon and picked up the win in the crease finishing the night with 35 saves.

Slow Start Sunday

Unlike the previous night, the Selects didn't get their legs moving early and it ended up costing them as they fell to Westman 2-1 on Sunday.

The opening minutes of the period found the Selects trying to find their rhythm.

There were some back and forth chances for both teams but a pair of goals in the opening period for Westman put Eastman in a hole they could never really climb out of.

Tough breaks continued in the second as the Selects were shutout in the first 40 minutes of the game.

They did get a push in the third as Kylie Lesuk scored in her second straight game to cut the lead to 2-1. Marlies Ilot and Alex Bednar had the assists.

The goal went straight to the legs of the Selects who began pressing for the equalizer but as their shots were turned away, frustration grew and the Selects began to cut a path to the penalty box.

With 5 minutes remaining, the penalty kill was called upon to kill off not one, but two 5 on 3's.

After getting back to even on the ice, the Selects pulled the goalie for an extra attacker but despite a number of chances, were not able to find the back of the net and the horn sounded signalling the loss.

Emma Plett was hung with the loss after making 18 saves.
