The Winnipeg Jets modest two-game winning streak came to an end Monday night at MTS Centre.

Mikkel Boedker's shorthanded goal 7:26 into the third period proved to be the winner as the San Jose Sharks defeated Winnipeg 3-2.

Joe Thornton, who helped set up Joe Pavelski's second of the night into an empty-net, became the 13th NHL player to record 1,000 career assists.

"I thought both teams played pretty hard defensively," said Jets defenseman Josh Morrisey who potted his fourth of the season in the first period. "Both teams had good gaps, there wasn't a lot to be had out there, I mean we didn't give up a whole lot and I don't think they did either. That's the sort of playoff hockey game that we're going to see down the stretch that are valuable as young players, but by the same token we need to be able to find a way to get that win."

Mark Scheifele scored his 28th of the season on the power play with seven seconds left in regulation.

Connor Hellebuyck, who made his 12th straight start in net for the Jets, stopped 27 shots.

The Jets (30-31-6) are three points back of the St. Louis Blues for the second wildcard in the Western Conference and will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
