The Southeast Blizzard were crowned the 2016-17 Eastman Bantam AA Champions after an undefeated run through the post-season.

The Blizzard, a team made up of players from Mitchell, Steinbach, LaBroquerie and Springfield, finished the regular season with a 15-0-3, good for 2nd place in the league heading into the playoffs.

In the opening round, they faced a stiff test in the form of the team from Pembina West. The Blizzard edged out a 2-1 victory in game 1 and then doubled up Pembina West 6-3 in game two to advance to the next round.

After getting through the Snipers in the semi-final, the Blizzard matched up against the Kenora Thistles, the top ranked team in the league with a record just slightly better then the Blizzard, finishing the year at 16-0-2.

Kenora held home ice advantage to start the series but the Blizzard played a solid road game and came back home with a 1-0 series lead after a gutsy 5-3 victory.

In game two, the Blizzard controlled most of the play and flexed thier offensive muscles while displaying terrific defence in what finished a 5-0 final, completing a perfect playoff run and finishing the season without a single loss.

For coach Luke Fender, it's not just what the players did on the ice, but how they grew off the ice as well. "The boys far exceeded many expectations. The boys proved that making life long friendships, loving the game of hockey and becoming a true team, (that) they were going to be successful. From the boys in the dressing room, to the parents in the stands, it was truly a complete hockey family with the 2016/2017 Southeast Blizzard.
