The Steinbach Pistons snapped their four-game losing streak with a lopsided, dominant performance over the Winnipeg Blues on Wednesday night, tieing a franchise record for goals in a 10-2 win.

It was the road team Blues that came out pushing the pace early, having the defence jump into the play to create chances as it paid off when Dylan Cassie went to the net and had a puck deflect off him and past Matthew Thiessen to make it 1-0 Winnipeg.

Steinbach would rattle off 10 straight goals.

Being down a goal early, the Pistons battled back and Bradley Schoonbaert collected his 19th of the year with Kyle Bettens (making his MJHL debut) and Drew Worrad getting the assists.

Just over four minutes later, it was Will Koop (12) fighting for space in front of the net and then burying a rebound to make it 2-1. Daniel McKitrick and Braden Purtill assisted on the goal.

Before the period was through, Worrad would score his first of the night and 11th of the year as he found a loose puck after a Darby Gula point shot handcuffed the Blues goalie and the lead swelled to 3-1. Schoonbaert also had an assist on Worrads goal.

Things got better for Steinbach in the second.

The goalie switch didn't get the momentum the Blues had hoped as Austin Heidemann took a perfectly timed, air stretch pass from Mark Taraschuk and buried his 11th of the year. Tyson McConnell, who freed up the puck in his own zone before feeding Taraschuk for the pass, also was given an assist on the 4-1 goal that chased Blues starter, Jeremy Link.

The goals kept coming fast and furious as Worrad collected his second of the game on a beautiful two on one with Bradley Schoonbaert. Schoonbaert went down the boards, slammed on the breaks and put a perfect tape-to-tape pass onto the stick of Worrad who slid it home as the lead was pushed to 5-1. Bettens picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.

McConnell notched a goal to go along with an earlier assist as a hard-working shift from the whole line resulted in McConnell snapping a shot short side for his 11th of the year. Danny Pion and Heidemann were given credit for the assists.

Braden Purtill got in on the scoring with back to back goals. The first on the power-play as he rifled a point shot through a crowd with the assists going to Gula and Worrad. Then Purtill scored again for his 15th of the year on a seeing-eye backhander that somehow made it's way to the back of the net with McKitrick getting his second assist of the game.

The final goal of the period went to Worrad who netted his hat-trick goal and 13th of the year from Bettens and Jack Lenchyshyn.

Six goals in the second period pushed the lead to 9-1 through 40 minutes of play.

In the third, Steinbach continued to work hard, keep things simple and not make things more complicated then they needed to be. Gula let an absolute rocket go from the point of his 7th of the year and the final goal of the night for the Pistons. Purtill picked up his 4th point on the night while Worrads assist gave him 5 points.

Dexter Kuczek had a goal deflect off him in front with just over two minutes to play to make it 10-2.

Time ran out and the Pistons got back in the win column with a huge statement game.

The power play was a perfect 2-2 while the Pistons didn't give up a single power play chance against. The only penalty came as part of a coincidental minor penalties.

Matthew Thiessen wasn't overly busy but did finish the night with 23 saves on 25 opportunities. Thiessen now has 9 wins on the year.

Coaches Notes

Paul Dyck was obviously pleased with the result but he was most encouraged by the effort. "I thought we played hard for 60 minutes. Our compete was there and we got back to playing the way we can. I think the guys really bought into doing the little things right. We kinda forgot where the front of the net was but we found it tonight."

Speed To Burn

Daniel McKitrick and Darby Gula aren't the biggest players in the league but people can't help but notice both players because of one major skill. Speed. "They're explosive," Dyck said after the game. "They create with their legs and give us a lot of looks offensively. They're both dynamic players and make a difference."

Taking Points To The Bank

Drew Worrad exploded for 5 points and jumped up to 9th place in the MJHL scoring race with 30 points.

Bradley Schoonbaert continues to lead the way with 45 points in 24 games.

Braden Purtill (tied for 3rd with 37), Darby Gula (tied for 7th with 31) and WIll Koop (11th with 28 points) round out Pistons in the top 11 in scoring.
