The Steinbach Miller Atom A team played in Beausejour this past weekend and came home with a gold medal.

The team had a solid start in the tournament defeating the Selkirk Fisherman 10A team by a score of 8-2.

The Millers continued to succeed through hard work and determination which lead them through a tough Portage Terriers A team.

Steinbach and Portage have a long-standing rivalry and the Millers exacted a bit of revenge against the team that knocked them out of the Neepawa Tournament of Champions in a thrilling shootout.

This time, it was the Millers that came out on top after a back and forth contest ended with a 6-3 victory for the white and blue which gave them they bye to the gold medal game.

After defeating Portage in the semi-finals, it was a rematch against Selkirk awaiting the Millers. The Fisherman jumped out to a 2-0 and then a 3-1 lead in the opening period.

The tide would change in the second when the Millers came out with a vengeance and tied the game. With seven minutes to go, the Millers pulled ahead and then Cole Mistlebacher scored the dagger shorthanded to put the Millers up by 3.

After an empty-netter, the Millers celebrated an 8-4 win to claim the gold.

The win comes at a good time for the Millers as they have a few provincial play down games against Lorette and playoffs set to start in the coming weeks.
