A former SRSS Sabre has made his way onto the University of Manitoba Bisons Football roster.

Eric Adams of Steinbach just graduated high school in June and is now looking ahead to the life of a university-level student-athlete at the U of M this fall. Adams was one of the top receivers in the Winnipeg High School Football League in the last two seasons.

Adams points out the Bison's receiver core is quite strong this year with many veteran players. At the moment, Adams thinks he might redshirt this season which means he will practice with the team but will not travel. One of the benefits of that is that redshirting doesn’t take off one of your five eligible playing years. However, Adams notes he will push hard to be able to travel and play with the team.

Adams says he was surprised when he got the news because it was already late in the signing period. “I’m excited for it and it’s fun to be playing with them, where I wanted to be playing instead of having to take a year off and play junior.”

The former Sabre receiver credits his former coach for helping him develop his skill up to this point. “Coach Peters has a great program going on there so he helped me out a lot along the way,” Adams adds.

Adams adds he’s looking forward to this new experience of taking university classes and playing football at the same time. “It’ll be a different experience compared to high school,” says Adams,” it’ll be more working on my time management and getting all my classes done and doing the football part of it as well.”

Hitting the gym is also part of Adams’ regiment which he notes has been a big part of his development in the past year. Adams adds his parents also played a large part in his journey whether it be driving him to games or making sure he was up on time for morning practices.

The Bisons herd are set to open their regular season on Saturday in Vancouver where they will play the UBC Thunderbirds.
