This is Cassandra Taylor's last year with the University of Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team.

So far this season the senior has played in all 20 games and has one goal, which came against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds October 29th.

This past weekend the Bisons, who are part of the University Sports Canada West Division, took on the first place Thunderbirds and came away with a win and a loss.

Saturday afternoon Manitoba dropped a tough 4-3 decision to UBC.

"I thought we fought hard. We started a little slow, but came back and showed a lot of team character," said the Landmark native, who used to play for the Eastman Selects and Balmoral Hall Blazers.

Meanwhile the day prior the Bisons shutout the Thunderbirds 2-0.

"I think we caught them flat footed last night. So, I don't think they were performing at their best last night," added the Bisons forward. "I thought we played more of a full game yesterday, and today we started a little slow and they got an advantage on us. After that we couldn't catch up in time."

Manitoba is currently sitting in third after this weekends action, with a 13-7 record, while the Thunderbirds are in first at 17-3.

The Bisons are ranked 7th in the country and UBC is number one, so to be able to skate with the best, it helped the confidence of the home team.

"I think it's a good feeling. It just shows how competitive our conference is and how there isn't much of a difference from the top to the bottom," continued Taylor.

As for a highlight of her Bisons career, it would have to be the five overtime game against the Saskatchewan Huskies, where they won and advanced to the Canada West semifinals.

In this game the Bisons jumped on the board quickly, scoring just 11 seconds into the game. Lauryn Keen found the back of the net with Venla Hovi and Alanna Sharman drawing the assists on the play. Then in the third, Saskatchewan tied things up, and 9:02 into the fifth overtime the same line struck again to end the game. Hovi with the goal, Sharman and Keen with the helpers.

"It was quite the experience. I've never experienced a game like that. The adrenaline was pumping and I think that's the moments you live for in your hockey career. This is my last year and that will never be forgotten," said Taylor.

Up next for the Bisons is the Lethbridge Pronghorns (4-14-2), who will come to Winnipeg this upcoming weekend for a pair of games Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.).
