Steinbach Pistons captain Braden Purtill scored five goals in two games over the weekend, including four in one game as the Pistons defeated both the Dauphin Kings on Friday night and the OCN Blizzard on Sunday.

In the Friday night game, it was Tyson McConnell that got the scoring started after he found a loose puck in front of the Kings net and buried his first of the year with under a minute gone in the period. The lone assist going to Darby Gula.

After Dauphin's Riese Gaber tied the game on a 5 on 3 power play for the Kings, Bradley Schoonbaert put the Pistons back on top with his fourth of the year. Mark Taraschuk collected the assist on the goal.

In the second, Purtill scored just 93 seconds into the period to push the lead to 3-1 for Steinbach. Gula got his second assist of the night on the captains fourth of the year.

In the final period, already with a 3-1 lead, the Pistons McConnell netted his second of the game and then just over a minute later, Will Koop scored his second goal in as many games to make it 5-1. Taraschuk, Jaret Lalli and Gula had the assists on the goals

With just 24 seconds left in the game, Brady Tatro scored his second of the year with assists going to Drew Anderson and Easton Bennett. 

The horn sounded and the Pistons skated away with a 6-1 win. The shots were in favour of the Pistons 44-26.

Matthew Thiessen had a strong night in the crease making 25 saves. The Pistons power play finished 0 for 5 while the penalty kill was strong going 4 for 5.

New Third Jersey's Prove To Be Hit With Fans And Players

Sunday night's contest was marked by the brand new third jersey's for the Steinbach Pistons. 

The scoring started early as Easton Bennett notched his first as a member of the Steinbach Pistons just 27 seconds into the contest. Brady Tatro and Mark Taraschuk had the helpers.

Then Braden Purtill took over.

The captain scored his first of the night and fifth of the season, to make it 2-0 Steinbach midway through the opening period. Will Koop and Bradley Schoonbaert had the assists on the goal.

In the middle period, Purtill cashed in on the power play with a beautiful deflection of a Darby Gula shot to make it 3-0. For Gula, it was already his 9th assist of the year and team-leading 10th point. 

Purtill completed the natural hat-trick in the third, as again he found the back of the net on the power play to make it 4-0. Declan Graham was given the assist on the goal. 

There was a scary moment in the third ad Pistons forward Danny Pion was shaken up after taking a check to the head. The forward was down on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the locker-room by teammates. OCN was given a 5 minute major for charging on the play. Pion did not return.

Steinbach's scoring was finished off as Purtill scored again on the power play to make it 5-0. For Purtill, it was his 8th goal of the year and 4th of the game, three of which came on the man advantage. 

Purtill was happy with his performance but more in what the team did. "It was a physical game and we're learning and coming together. It was a good couple of wins and it's always nice to contribute."

Matt Radomsky earned his first shutout of the year making 22 saves on the night. "It was fun." The Winnipeg native said post-game. "The defence played well and I was able to see a lot. It's always nice to get that first shutout."

 Steinbach's power play finished 3 for 8 while the penalty kill was sensational finishing 8 for 8. Steinbach had the edge in shots 42-22.

The Pistons will have a week of practice before heading out on the road for games in Dauphin Friday night and Waywayseecappo on Saturday. For the team, it's their first overnight road trip fo the year, something that always brings the team together.

"It's still kind of a new team, so it's good to get to know a few of the guys more." When asked which teammate is most likely to be pranked on the road trip, Purtill responded with a laugh, "oh I haven't even thought of it. I know Schoonbaert might have some good ones. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Steinbach's record is now 4-1-0.
