Pistons Royalty Vs Kings

It was the first-weekend road trip for the Steinbach Pistons and it started Friday night with a 7-3 win in Dauphin over the Kings.

It was the home team that struck first as Mccullough Park scored to make it 1-0 Dauphin early in the first. 

The Pistons quickly tied the game just 14 seconds later as Easton Bennett scored his second of the season with assists going to Drew Anderson and Curtis Ireland.

Austin Heidemann scored his first goal for the Steinbach Pistons and first in the MJHL less than two minutes later to make it a 2-1 Pistons lead. Will Koop and Mark Taraschuk had the helpers. 

Before the period was through, Bradley Schoonbaert picked up his first of the night and 5th of the season. Darby Gula picked up his team-leading 10th assist of the year. 

Dauphin would score to cut the lead to one as Park scored his second of the game. The period ended with Steinbach up 3-2.

In the second, the Kings got the game tied up thanks to Brendan Arnold, less than five minutes into the frame.

The Pistons then took over with four consecutive goals. 

Schoonbaert scored his second of the game with assists going to Jack Lenchyshyn and Braden Purtill.

Jack Johnson collected his third goal of the year, unassisted.

Schoonbaert capped off the hat-trick with assists to Taraschuk and Purtill.

Then, the final goal scored in the game went to Braden Purtill with his team-leading 9th. Schoonbaert and Jaret Lalli had the helpers.

7-3 Steinbach is how the second period ended and no goals were scored in the third so that's how the final score reads.

Matt Radomsky was solid making 17 saves on the night. Steinbach's power play went 0-4 while the penalty kill again was strong finishing 6-6.

Wolverine Road Kill

The Pistons came out firing on Saturday night against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, racking up 17 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play resulting in one goal thanks to Tyson McConnell who now has three on the season. The lone assist went to Tanner Mole.

In the second, while on the power play, Will Koop netted his third of the year with assists to Bradley Schoonbaert and Jack Lenchyshyn.

Schoonbaert, coming off a hat-trick on Friday, continued his scoring onslaught by scoring two goals in less than a minute. The first was his 8th of the year with Braden Purtill and Koop getting the assists. His second of the game was his 9th of the year, tieing Purtill for the team lead. Tristan Culleton got the assist, his first point as a Piston.

Adam Withers scored for the Wolverines to get them on the board before the period was through but Steinbach was in control 4-1 after 40 minutes.

In the third, Withers struck again to cut the lead to 4-2.

Again, the Pistons were set to rattle off a bunch of goals all in a row.

On the man advantage, Brady Tatro scored his third of the year with Jaret Lalli and Jack Lenchyshyn getting the assists.

Jack Johnson scored in his second straight game to make it 6-2 Steinbach. Curtis Ireland and Schoonbaert had the assists on Johnson's fourth goal of the season.

A special moment for Tanner Mole when he found the back of the net for his first goal as a member of the Steinbach Pistons to make it 6-2. Braden Purtill and Schoonbaert had the assists. 

The final goal of the contest was scored on the power play by Easton Bennett who potted his third of the year from Drew Anderson and Johnson.

Matthew Thiessen picked up the win making 20 saves. The power play clicked going 3-8 while the penalty kill was 2-3.

Bradley Schoonbaert finished the weekend with 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points. He went into the weekend with 9 points. Schoonbaert leads the league with 18 points in 7 games. 5 points higher than teammate Braden Purtill who sits in second with 13 in 7 games.

The Pistons will head out on the road Wednesday night when they take on the Neepawa Natives. It'll be the first time the two teams will meet since they battled in the playoffs last season. 

Steinbach will be back at the TG Smith Centre Friday night when they entertain the Winnipeg Blues in the first game of a mini home and home series.
