The Steinbach Pistons earned two out of a possible four points vs the Swan Valley Stampeders over the weekend.

Shutout Saturday

The Pistons couldn't catch a break Saturday night and despite outshooting the Stampeders 12-4 in the first period alone and 32-26 overall, they couldn't find the back of the net and fell 3-0.

In the opening period, the Pistons had their chances but it was Swan Valley getting on the board first on a power play with less than eight minutes to play in the first.

Steinbach's netminder Matt Lenz was very solid in the second period and gave his team a chance. Swan pushed and outshot the Pistons 14-6 while scoring another goal late to make it a 2-0 game.

In the third, another power-play goal against spelt the end for the Pistons. As they dropped a 3-0 game.

The power play was 0-4 while the penalty kill went 1-3.

Bounce Back Sunday

Steinbach stormed out of the gate on Sunday and put up 4 goals in the first half of the game and eventually held on to a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Tater Time

Brady Tatro had gone 8 games without a goal but he shook that off in a big way on Sunday.

Tatro's 16th goal of the year opened the scoring from Brendan Westbrook and Tyson McConnell within the first five minutes of the opening period.

Matt Lenz was again outstanding turning away all 13 shots the Stamps fired his way in the opening 20 minutes as the Pistons took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Steinbach came out running in the second period, scoring three consecutive goals.

Tanner Mole made it 2-0 with his 13th of the year which was assisted by Brendan Martin and Easton Bennett.

The 3-0 goal belonged to Tatro who capped off a two-goal night with his 17th of the season from Tyson McConnell.

David Queree finished off the scoring night for Steinbach as the Richmond, BC native cashed in for his second goal of the season from McConnell as the lead swelled to 4-0. Martin's second assist of the night was the lone helper on the goal.

The Queree goal chased the Stampeders goalie Merek Pipes who a night before put up a shutout but allowed 4 goals on just 12 shots in Sunday's matchup.

Swan Valley was able to score late in the period to cut the lead to 4-1 and give themselves a little momentum heading into the third.

In the final frame, the Stampeders scored a pair of goals but Lenz and the Pistons refused to let them get back on even ground and Steinbach was able to get the big 4-3 victory on the road.

Matt Lenz made 28 saves for the win.

The power play was 0-3 while the penalty kill was 3-4.
