A man is deceased after a report of a kayaker in distress at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park on Friday.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP say they received the call around 8:30 p.m.

When they arrived on scene an RCMP officer, along with a Conservation Officer, went out on a boat patrol to the base of Sturgeon Falls, going into Nutimik Lake, the location witnesses had heard distress calls.

RCMP say they found a 59-year-old male deceased in the water. They add the male is from Keewatin, Ontario and was wearing a life jacket.

The deceased has been identified as former Kenora police chief Dan Jorgensen.

No signs of foul play are suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
