The Town of Niverville has been experiencing a strong start to this year's construction season.

In the first quarter of 2017, there have been 11 single family housing starts and a total permit value of just over 3.2 million dollars. During the same period in the previous year, there was 6 housing starts in Niverville and a total permit value of just over 2 million dollars.

Mayor Myron Dyck says the upswing in housing has benefited from good market conditions and hard work.

"The developers have been very busy in advertising both locally and in the region. The town in the past couple years has been a part of that, where some money of our marketing budget has been spent in conjunction with our developers promoting our community as a whole, so that has been beneficial for sure."

Dyck says even though most of the development so far this year has been residential, there has been some interest on the commercial side. He notes council expects commercial development to pick up when their rezoning plan for the Niverville Business Park is approved by the province.

"We expect to have that shortly and once we have that through, then the business park would be officially open for business. We have had people through the town office, wanting to know if lots are officially for sale yet or not so we are anxious to get that back from the province so that we can see lots starting to sell there."
