The baseball diamonds in Steinbach had 14 millimetres or .56 of an inch of rain dumped on them after this weekend's two-day rain storm.

Jason Peters from Steinbach Parks and Recreation says crews have been working hard since early Tuesday morning getting the diamonds ready for the Zone 13 High School Softball Championships taking place Tuesday and Wednesday at A.D. Penner Park.

Peters adds the city didn't have to cancel any games over the weekend, despite the rainfall.

"We had some games there [over the weekend]. The coaches and umpires made their own decisions and some games were canceled, but as far as the city goes, we didn't have to cancel anything. They were playable, wet, but playable."

He the Parks and Recreation crew did a lot of work on the diamonds last year for the Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games and so there has been a great improvement in drainage.
