After hearing from two large crowds of concerned local residents this week, the Canada Border Services Agency has announced it will not reconsider its decision after all.

In an email, the CBSA says “The decision has been made to adjust the hours, which will take effect November 26, 2018.”

The hours at Tolstoi will be reduced to 8:00 am to 8:00 pm during the summer and to 8:00 am to 6:00 pm between Labour Day and Victoria Day. At the South Junction port of entry, the new proposal calls for the operating hours to be reduced to 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The third port affected, Piney, the new hours of operation will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“The adjustment in hours of operation is a result of a comprehensive review of local traffic patterns at the POEs. For these sites, the CBSA reviewed the traffic volumes during the proposed reduced hours, other available ports of entry within the immediate area that remain accessible, and determined that it could optimize the use of its resources by adjusting our hours of operation,” the CBSA said in the email.

The border agency also notes the operation at these ports of entry will also be in line with those of the adjacent U.S. ports of entry.

The CBSA says it regularly reviews its operations and adds should circumstances change, it may review and reconsider the changes to hours of service.
