In June of next year, a fire hall should be operational in the community of Ste.Agathe.

That is the hope of Mitch Duval, Chief Administrative Officer for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot. Duval says this week they crossed the final hurdle.

"We needed permission from the Highway Traffic Board because of close proximities to Provincial Road 305," says Duval. "I got verbal confirmation that our application has been approved as requested. So that is basically the last hurdle, we are now ready to start construction."

The fire hall will go up north of PR 305 and slightly west of the school grounds. There is a service road running north/south and Duval says the hall will be built just east of that service road. Duval says he anticipates construction will start in the next week or two.

"The tenders are all ready and awarded," he says. "Now it's just a matter of getting on site and start digging and start building."

According to Duval, the project is expected to cost between $1.7 million and $1.8 million. He explains the municipality has received approval to transfer $600,000 from general reserves to cover any offset deficits through this project. It will also be paid for through taxes, which will be noticed by ratepayers throughout Ritchot as an extra line on their tax bill.

The new fire hall in Ste.Agathe will be the third hall for Ritchot. There are also halls in St.Adolphe and Ile des Chenes. The municipality has a Chief and Deputy Chief and then each of the three halls will have its own captain.

It will be a three bay hall for Ste.Agathe. Duval says they are in the process of training between 15 and 20 volunteer firefighters.
