$150,000 was the estimated total of damages to a detached garage, next to a home eight miles south of Steinbach on Road 29N.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says an investigator from the Office of the Fire Commissioner was called in to determine the cause of the fire. "The cause was accidental and it came from an electrical heating bulb socket that was sitting on the outside of the garage."

Wiebe says Grunthal Fire was called out first, then requested crews from Kleefeld for assistance, and water tankers from the New Bothwell and Steinbach Fire Departments. "The fire started in the detached garage which is sitting about 6-8 feet from the house. Our main focus was to keep the fire from spreading to the house, which we did."

Fire crews were on scene for about four hours, although Wiebe notes, the fire was knocked down within the first half hour.
