Niverville Town Council will remain unchanged for the next four years.

When nominations closed late Tuesday afternoon, no new candidates had stepped forward to challenged the incumbents meaning councillors John Funk, Kevin Stott, Chris Wiebe, and Nathan Dueck, as well as Mayor Myron Dyck, have all been elected by acclamation.

Mayor Myron Dyck says he does not want to take being voted in by acclamation for granted.

"I recognize that the next four years have a lot of work ahead. I want to let the residents of Niverville know what an honour it has been to serve them as councillor and most recently as mayor, and again, I don’t rest on those Laurels, I want to continue to seek more knowledge, gain more understanding, I want to be a better listener and I want to do my best to lead with integrity."

Despite the candidates not having to go on the campaign trail this fall, Dyck says council still wants to hear from residents as they head into this coming four-year term.

"People want the opportunity to have a say, to feel that they had a choice. I know that the chamber is wanting to have a candidates forum but because of what has happened here, we are going to turn it into a town hall so we want to welcome the people, it is going to be operated by the chamber, but we want to hear from the residents. What would you like council to do for you in the next four years, what are your goals for your family in being here."

Dyck says it is important that council get a good clear understanding of what residents would like to see in the town. He notes though having some turnover on council can be a good way to get fresh ideas, there are some big benefits to moving forward with the same council.

"There is obviously a knowledge of where Niverville is at in it’s process as a community and so there is not the training that is required with someone new coming on. We can continue where we are at with planning and with moving things forward without having to bring others up to speed, so that is one advantage."

Dyck adds this council works well together as they have very good dialogue and a mutual respect for one another. He notes they are excited to continue working on improving Niverville for future generations.
