Families from the southeast enjoyed a wide range of activities on Saturday at the Mennonite Heritage Village's first winter carnival.

Jonathan Kroeker brought his family to the carnival and says it's nice to have a place to go where there are activities for everyone in the family.

"Absolutely, it's nice to have a place to go in the winter time and it's a beautiful day. It's nice and warm, minus ten isn't so bad. It's good to have some activities to bring the kids out." Meanwhile, Jonathan's son Skyler Kroeker explains what his favourite activity is. "Probably the sledding, the hill is so high."

Patricia West, the Development Coordinator at the MHV says they are open year round and a lot of people don't know that so she adds they decided to host a winter carnival. She describes one of the newer unique activities called the hood hustle.

"The hood hustle is similar to wild winter canoe race where you get teams and instead of using canoes we used car hoods. So you get two people on a hood, each person kneels on one side of the hood and with their other leg they push themselves down our rack and the fastest team wins."

There were numerous other activities such as sledding, ice bowling, skating, mini putt, a snowball toss or warm up inside with snacks and a nice cup of hot chocolate.
