It continues to be a month of firsts for Steinbach's new Mayor.

Earl Funk was elected Mayor on October 24th. Since then he has attended his first grand opening in Steinbach and today hosted his first Open Door. Funk says it is important to carry on this tradition.

"Because I think it is a venue by where the residents can come and speak and share their concerns," says Funk.

He suggests Open Door might take on a slightly different look in the new year as he is considering adjusting the hours.

Funk says today's inaugural Open Door was a lot of fun.

"I had a lot of visitors, it was a very busy morning and even staff commented on how busy it was," says Funk. "I had a lot of residents that came in and just wished me well and congratulated me."

Funk says he has felt overwhelming support from the community since his election victory.

Meanwhile, he says the last few weeks have been extremely busy. From council orientation to learning the duties of Mayor, Funk says it has been a great learning experience.

The new Mayor says one thing he is looking forward to is setting up school tours where kids aged Kindergarten to grade four can visit City Hall and learn about the political process.
