The summer day camps coordinator for the Town of Niverville says the first half of summer has been a huge success.

Jane Fast says the first day camp was creativity camp starting on July 4th with 23 kids. She notes their goal was to have at least 8 children in each weekly day camp and they have exceeded those numbers. She adds this is her first year being the summer camp coordinator and it has been a lot of fun working with her helper Meghan McIntyre.

"This is the first year that the Town of Niverville has had in-house programming, before we would ask other companies to come in and run a week of camp. This year I started in May, I planned all of the camps, and then in July we had the kids and we started running them."

Fast says the weather has been amazing so far this summer allowing them to spend much of their time in the great outdoors. She says every week is a different camp with different activities such as Hollywood Acting Camp, Amazing Race Camp, and Gymnastics Camp. She says the activities are for everyone.

"I have two main goals and the first one is that everyone feels valued as an individual and second is that kids will want to come back next year. I plan my camps with a lot of activities that are inclusive so kids will feel that they are having fun and are part of a team."

Fast says running the day camps takes a lot of energy but it has been worth it and has encouraged her love of children.

"My favourite part about the camps is meeting a bunch of kids from a lot of different backgrounds and when kids open up to me and they have been in the foster system and how hard it is, or they lost their parents, it is those touching stories that really get to me and that make me realize why I am doing my job and why I want to be a teacher in the future, because I love kids so much."
