With two days left before a new mayor is elected in Steinbach, candidate Earl Funk is pledging to focus on openness and transparency.

Funk says this means being upfront about costs and making sure the public is fully informed about future spending decisions. For example, he commits to not using taxpayers' dollars to bail out private organizations and will not circumvent the city's official grants policy. Funk says his voting record shows he will not be involved in any backroom deals.

"At the end of the day, I do not want to get elected by making unrealistic promises or secret deals," says Funk. "It is more important to be transparent with the public and honest about the challenges we face than to try to win by recklessly promising everything to every group."

Funk is also pledging to serve as mayor the same way he has acted in his business and private life; with honesty and integrity.
