The committee chair for the Grunthal Local Urban District says they have one capital project planned for 2017.

Jim Funk says in 2016 they began work on constructing a sidewalk, that once complete will span about one kilometre, beginning at Park Street and ending at Wiens Road.

Funk notes they got more than half the project completed last year, at a cost of about $50,000. He is hopeful they can have the entire project wrapped up by July, noting they will spend about $40,000 this year.

According to Funk, it is not unusual for Grunthal to have only one capital project each year. He notes this sidewalk is being built in a very busy part of town and will get a lot of use.

The LUD of Grunthal committee is expecting to operate with a budget this year of $256,565. The proposed mill rate increase will see taxes go up by $16.88 for an average home assessed at $250,000.
