The Rural Municipality of Hanover would like to place some driver feedback signs along some streets within their Local Urban Districts. Reeve Stan Toews says the problem is they aren't getting the necessary approval from the province.

These signs are electronic boards that identify a vehicle's speed. Toews says their LUD committees would like these placed along some provincial roads, but in order to do that, they need provincial approval.

"We have asked Highways and they, at this point are not very keen on having us locate any," he says. "They claim they are too distracting."

Toews explains the municipality needs approval for these signs along provincial roads but not if they wanted to place them on municipal roads.

According to Toews, their LUD committees would like them put in school zones and other corridors.

Council has asked its Chief Administrative Officer to send a letter of support to Association of Manitoba Municipalities to lobby the province for this approval.
