Ward Six in the Rural Municipality of Hanover will have a new councillor after next month's election. Jim Funk will be in by acclamation, as the result of no other candidates challenging him.

Funk says he has lived in Grunthal his entire life. He has served in numerous capacities, including the Grunthal Arena Board for 25 years, Grunthal Motocross for more than 10 years and the Local Urban District committee of Grunthal for 8 years.

Through his time with the Grunthal LUD, Funk says one issue that has surfaced repeatedly centers around development within that community. He notes there are only about a handful of lots still available within Grunthal. However, developers are not interested.

"Developers are saying the cost is high and once they have developed there, there is more cost to it," he says. "They have backed off, I'm not sure if we can revisit that and get some developers coming in."

Funk says he is hopeful that council and the LUD can work together to spark development again in their community.

According to Funk, he received a lot of support to run for the position of council. Henry Funk held that position for 12 years before announcing this summer that he would not be seeking re-election. Funk says from what he can see it looks like the ward has been running smoothly and he looks forward to the new opportunity in front of him.
