A familiar name in local politics will be the Liberal candidate in the Lac du Bonnet riding in the upcoming provincial election. Terry Hayward of Anola, who has run both in federal and provincial elections, won the nomination last Friday. He ran for the Liberals in Dawson Trail in the previous provincial election, where former Tache Mayor Robert Rivard is running this time around. He says his decision to run again was prompted by concern about what the Progressive Conservatives have done.

Terry Hayward"I keep putting my name forward because I deeply care about the people. I'm concerned with what the Progressive Conservatives have done provincially and, in fact, what they're not doing. So, I wanted to get my name forward and bring forward the priorities of the people in the region."

Hayward says the Liberals have some very good ideas such as a campaign commitment to develop a province-wide buy local campaign to support local businesses and create jobs. He adds the Liberals also have a plan to improve policing.

"It's a way we can improve policing, secure our homes, our houses, our businesses, and this is of great importance to people in rural areas. As much as we love the RCMP, the resources there seem to be strained and it takes a long time to get a response to calls for service for us. So, on top of their good work, we are proposing that there be a Manitoba Police Service put in place."

Hayward says southeastern Manitoba is his home and he dearly wants to make it an even better place.
