Niverville Town Council is moving forward with a plan to appoint a permanent health advisory committee.

Mayor Myron Dyck says council set up a health task force in spring that included a number of medical professionals including the former chair of Southern Health as well as a council representative. He notes they met through summer and fall and presented to town council.

"They were given a scope of about four different points primarily dealing with doctor recruitment, retention, and health professional recruitment retention. They then produced a report to council which we took to planning session in November and from discussing that, there was a recommendation in that report that this health task force wishes to continues as a health advisory committee."

Dyck says council has yet to set the scope and parameters for this health advisory committee, however, with the willingness of the members to volunteer in this way, council sees great benefit in moving forward with the committee.

"When you have something as central to the community as our heritage centre, as our open health clinic and all the facets of it, municipal government is really aware of what this does to the economics of our community and to the care of the residents of not just our community but of our region and so this will further help to make this jewel of our community better."

Dyck says council wants to make informed and educated decisions regarding healthcare in Niverville and this advisory committee will help them do that.
