Demolition of the former personal care home and convent in St. Adolphe is underway. Gord Daman, Chair of Niverville Heritage Holdings, says the contractor first removed the asbestos that was in the old building and is now tearing down the structure.

"We've been so pleased with the contractor that's been involved in the demolition. They have gone through the remediation process that's been required to remove the asbestos that's on site and they've gotten to the point where demolition has started. And I'm sure many people are going to have mixed feelings; on one hand, some excitement about what's potentially to come but, on the other hand, it's a closing of a chapter of history within the community that has seen the building serve the community well."

He says it will take about two weeks to level the building. Daman adds, after demolition has been completed, there will be some site remediation work to be done which will be finished in July.

Niverville Heritage Holdings is working on plans for an 80-space daycare centre and senior's housing complex at that location and hopes to start construction next year.
