The annual Kleefeld Honey Festival is kicking off this weekend and a spokesperson says he's excited it's finally here after lots of planning that started back in January.

Gord Meneer explains there's a lot to experience this weekend and it starts with a double feature movie on Friday night. Meneer says the first movie is 'Rio 2' which starts at 8pm. He notes they're very proud to be showing 'Blended' as their second movie as it has not been in theatres yet.

Saturday morning from 7-9am is the pancake breakfast followed by the parade at 10:00. Afterwards, Meneer adds there will be entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening.

“Throughout the day we have our vendor rows that set up and we have some honey producers there that will be selling honey throughout the day,” explains Meneer.

There will also be a chili cook-off starting at noon followed by a chicken dinner and fireworks at 10:45 to end the day. Meneer notes this year there will be a kids carnival tent set up and he's very excited about it.

“The wristbands are for our entire kids area we have this year,” Meneer explains wristbands are $5.00 and kids can spend the entire afternoon in the completely new area. “There's so many things, face painting, balloon artists, prize tent, pony rides, games and there's a whole whack of things that are over in that area.”

Menner adds there will also be a raffle drive this year with only 500 tickets being sold and someone will be walking home on Saturday with a brand new 10x12 shed.
