A situation that came up Thursday evening has caused the Fire Chief in La Broquerie to put out a request to residents. Al Nadeau says it relates to false alarms for fires.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Al Nadeau"We got grass fire calls (at 8:00 p.m.) at both ends of the municipality, east and west. And, as it turns out, they were both false alarms. It makes for a lot of running around. I would like to remind people even if they do see a little bit of smoke in a field or somewhere, don't just call 911 because you see smoke, you should always investigate a bit before calling."

Meanwhile, Nadeau says La Broquerie has not yet implemented a fire ban like most of its neighbours have. He explains that's because there is still a lot of snow in the bush, there's good moisture in the ground and the nights are fairly cool.

"Also, we've been educating our public to burn responsibly. They burn after 6:00 at night. Sometimes you need to burn stuff. If they can do that responsibly, that'll work fine. But if the weather turns really hot and windy and it stays dry all night, then we'll put the ban on for sure.

Nadeau says they are constantly monitoring the situation.
