The La Broquerie Fire Department was called back to a dairy farm at the north end of La Broquerie Wednesday night. Fire there Tuesday night and Wednesday morning destroyed four barns and caused $2.5 million worth of damage. Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says they got the call to go back at 8:46 p.m.

"We went to put out a few hot spots. There is still lots of burning going on there. All the metal cladding is perfect for letting it bake underneath. If the conditions are right and the winds are going to be favourable, instead of putting our guys in there for the next three days, we just let it burn as much as we can."

Nadeau says the strong north wind is ideal for letting the fire burn back on itself.

"There is going to be lots of burning happening and very safely. If there is smoke in the town of La Broquerie today, don't worry about it, that's just the burnt barns finishing to burn."

According to the Office of the Fire Commissioner, the fire was caused by the failure of an auger motor on the corn feed crusher and was deemed accidental. There are 2,500 head of cattle at that farm and nine calves died in the blaze.
