Phase two of the tertiary lagoon project in La Broquerie will be underway this year.

Reeve Lewis Weiss they have renewed their project manager's contract and chose option one for the layout of the tertiary land project at a cost of $3,833,895.

"There were two options for the layout of the land. The reason they recommended option one is because it was a lower cost and the reason being, option two, which was the more south layout, there wasn't enough clay underneath so the cost of doing it would be quite a bit higher."

The budget for the wetland tertiary project was $4-million and Weiss says it's good to see the project came in under budget.

Meanwhile, Weiss notes the municipality has purchased more land east of the current lagoon.

"There is a parcel of land there that we were in the process of purchasing earlier in '17 and it is a piece of a bigger parcel. So that's what the A and B is, the A is the part that we're purchasing and the B is the leftover part that he's keeping, the border is the river itself. The reason we have to do this resolution is because that land, once we own it, will become part of the utility. It can't be developed into housing or anything like that."

Weiss adds the other reason the municipality decided to purchase this piece of land is to resolve a former agreement.

"We had purchased land from this resident for the lagoon and in the previous agreement we had to build him a road on the north side of the lagoon to access his property, turns out there isn't really enough room for that. It would be so expensive to build him a proper road so we just decided, why don't we just buy these ten acres from him and then we won't ever have to worry about it, and no other council will ever have to worry about it."
