The rookie MLA for Dawson Trail says he is really enjoying his new life as a member of the Manitoba Legislature. Progressive Conservative Bob Lagasse of Landmark says it is completely different from anything he has ever done before. He adds his first Sitting of the Legislature was a real eye-opener.

"I didn't know what to expect. I was new to the whole, entire thing and I found it quite the learning curve or, as one of my colleagues put it, it's not even a curve, you kind of hit the wall and have to climb. There are 24 of us that are brand new so we're all trying to figure out what exactly goes on because it's not exactly like there's a crash course for MLA's that fits every particular riding. Every riding is unique and you have to kind of learn as you go."

Lagasse was thrilled to have been appointed to the committee that will choose the province's next Child Advocate noting it is one of the reasons he ran for office.

"To me, that's super exciting because it's right up my alley. It's one of the reasons I got into this was to help change that system, to be able to be part of setting the criteria for the next person that's going to give these kids a voice."

Lagasse says one of the biggest lessons he is having to learn is patience because the wheels of government turn so slowly.

"There's so much tradition in that building. I call it the slow part of government. For a guy like myself that's used to action, it seems like it goes very, very very slowly (laughter). Sometimes I feel like we should just be able to say that it needs to get done and that would be it. But there's also a downfall to that kind of stuff; you don't want to make a decision without looking at all the angles."

Lagasse says, now that the Sitting has ended, he is looking forward to spending a lot of time in the constituency to help to solve as many problems as he can.
