Steinbach will be a very busy place by the end of this week.

This weekend is the Atom Classic hockey tournament and Jason Peters, Recreation Programmer for the City of Steinbach says this is one of the larger hockey tournaments held at the T.G. Smith Centre throughout the year. He notes 20 to 30 teams from all over the province are coming out for the tournament and adds parking will be an issue, especially on Friday.

"So this is what we need to know. If you are not at the arena or you work downtown, you're going to find a lot of people there that aren't normally there. For those who are going to try to park at the arena for the tournament, you will have difficulty during the day on Friday. It's going to be a nice day I understand so drop your kids off, park a little ways and walk so let's just be prepared for that."

Peters says the tournament begins on Friday and he notes that's what can catch people by surprise.

"These daytime tournaments always kind of catch people off guard and certainly people from out of town won't know that so they will show up and there's always some frustrations. So if you can help out a visiting family and let them know where they can park and where they can't. As soon as you get to the end of the day Friday it's not an issue for the weekend anymore typically."

Peters notes we have a few of these large tournaments every year in Steinbach and this is just one of those examples.
