Some local residents had the opportunity to see themselves in a brand new Netflix movie over the weekend.

Movie crews were in Steinbach at the old Safeway building on August 28th last year filming portions of a new movie called “How it Ends” with movie stars such as Forrest Whitaker and Theo James. Many local residents participated as movie extras and Roanne Plett says seeing herself on film was a little surreal.

"It was very very cool to see that and freeze-frame it and make sure I saw it. Actually a couple of minutes beforehand I got to see my husband in there just real quick, so a really cool experience."

Lorna Sobering and her husband Russ also participated as extras. Lorna notes this past weekend they held a family viewing party for the newly released movie.

"I decided to have the family over to see if we were going to show up. I watched the movie quickly ahead of time just to see and so I did see that we were in it and then I tried to keep it from the family all day. I wanted to surprise them and just watch it. Several of them saw it on social media but we were able to surprise one of the boys and it was a pretty cool moment."

Cheryl Sobering says it was very neat to participate in the film shoot and see how scenes are made and how many takes they do. She notes when you watch a movie expecting to see yourself, you catch different things.

"I guess you notice more of what is going on in the background because you are trying to spot everyone you know. There were quite a few familiar faces and it was a lot of fun."

Lorna Sobering says if the opportunity to play an extra ever presented itself again in Steinbach, the would gladly jump on the opportunity again.
