Loewen Boulevard or Road 36N is an inter-municipal road between a number of municipalities. This week two R.M.'s decided to continue to work together to upgrade another section of Loewen Boulevard.

La Broquerie Reeve Lewis Weiss says they met with the R.M. of Ste. Anne and discussed doing another mile of upgrades on Loewen Boulevard. “We seem to be in agreement on that so we are going to get some tenders on doing that job. We also talked about doing some rock removal east of where we started from last year. We only tender out one mile at a time, and whoever the lower tender is, that's who is awarded the work.”

R.M. of Ste. Anne Reeve Art Bergmann says the piece of Loewen Boulevard that was upgraded in 2015 was a joint effort between the two R.M.'s. “We expect that we are going to continue that project this year. We did two miles last year between Roads 37E and 39E, and now we'll be moving further westward. The next section to be upgraded would be from Road 36E to Road 37E. It hasn't been formalized yet, but we are working on those arrangements.”

Bergmann says, “that was a road that had not seen any kind of improvements in decades. It didn't have proper drainage in many places, it had rocks protruding, and it was not the kind of road that would meet the standards we have in our municipality and neither was La Broquerie happy with it.”

“The way things work for our inter municipal road with La Broquerie is that we share pretty much 10 miles. The long standing arrangement is that Ste. Anne looks after the road that they call 'Duhamel' which is east of La Broquerie, Provincial Road 210 forms part of that border. East of that is what La Broquerie looks after. In the regular season we don't need to get the okay from various councils for the work that needs to be done where it follows the traditional areas, like putting some aggregate on the road bed, for blading and dust control.”

Bergmann adds, “this is certainly the costliest project that we have undertaken with La Broquerie in my time. However, when we have a major project like this, first off we need to budget for it and so that needs to be in the works for a chunk of time so funds can be brought into place." Bergmann adds, "we are very happy with the work that was done on Loewen Boulevard, and we are satisfied that the road is going to serve our residents and the residents of the area.”
