If you're planning a trip to the U.S. this weekend, make sure you have all your papers in order.  U.S. Customs and Border Protection are gearing up for higher traffic volumes through their ports of entry during Canada's August long weekend. Customs spokesman Brad King tells us wait times for Manitoba motorists tend to get a little longer especially at the Pembina crossing.

He says the August long weekend tends to be a busy time for U.S. customs officers. The plan is to have an increased number of staff during the weekend to accomodate the higher volume of visitors. King reminds us that there are a number of things we can do to speed up the inspection process, such as having your documents ready.

U.S. Customs encourages travelers to obtain a radio frequency identification (RFID) enabled travel document such as a U.S. Passport Card, Enhanced Driver’s License/Enhanced Identification Card or Trusted Traveler Program. He says the RFID cards help reduce the time it takes to process travelers at the border.
