A 19-year old male driver from Grunthal has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after a collision shortly before 9:00 Friday morning involving a pickup truck and a school bus.

The collision occurred on Highway 52, just west of the Kleefeld turn-off. St. Pierre RCMP say an early investigation has revealed the eastbound school bus had pulled over to the shoulder and come to a stop to pick up students, they note the school bus had flashing lights and the stop sign was extended.

An eastbound vehicle following the school bus came to a stop on the highway and waited for the bus to clear before proceeding, however, another eastbound vehicle, a pickup truck, drove onto the shoulder of the highway and attempted to pass the stopped vehicle, colliding into the back of the school bus.

RCMP say the school bus had approximately 20 children seated at the time and, after being checked by EMS at the scene and again at Kleefeld School, there were no injuries to report. The eastbound vehicle stopped behind the bus was not involved in the collision.
