Residents of southeastern Manitoba are getting another chance to state their concerns about Manitoba Hydro's proposed Manitoba-Minnesota Transmission Line that will run through this part of the province. The National Energy Board will hold hearings during the last week of May. Spokesperson Marc Drolet says people have until February 7th to register on the NEB website to appear at the hearings.

"This is a hearing during which the panel will be looking at a range of issues, topics like the need for the project, the economic viability as well as the route and the potential impacts on the landowners and indigenous peoples in the area."

Drolet adds to avoid duplication, the NEB is suggesting that people focus on new information when making presentations.

"That's because the panel has asked Manitoba Hydro to file all of the information, including the submissions from past participants in the provincial process, onto the federal record. So panel members will be looking at everything that has been submitted as part of the provincial process."

He notes funding is available for the NEB hearings to help presenters cover their costs.

"Things like legal fees, expert fees and also travel expenses that may be involved in participating in this hearing."

The hearings will happen May 23-June 1, although specific locations and times have not been been determined.
