Ever since Canadian Gold Beverages in Marchand won the Best Bottled Water in the World award at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition in February, they have been receiving a lot of international interest.

President Peter deJong says he has been receiving phone calls from across the globe.

"We get calls from all over the world now.  We've gotten calls from China, Macau and England.  For a small company, it's hard to get enough resources to follow up on all the sales calls.  We also still focus on the southeast and Winnipeg first."

deJong explains what sets them apart from other water makers and helped win them their award.

"We still do natural filtering with sand and gravel.  We use about 15 or 16 layers of sand and gravel.  We don't use any chemical filters like a lot of major corporations now do."

He notes they are also one of the only companies in North America that doesn't have any sodium in their water.  They draw their water from a large aquifer in Sandilands Provincial Park, which is why the plant is located in Marchand.  deJong explains they are enjoying the fallout from winning the best bottled water award, as they have spread their sales into Saskatchewan and Alberta.
