A businesswoman from Marchand is running as the Liberal candidate in the La Verendrye riding in the provincial election next month. Lorena Mitchell operates the company Evolve Green. She decided to run because of her concerns on a number of issues.

Lorena Mitchell"One of things that is concerning are things related to climate, but also jobs out here. It's been very weak for jobs in the La Verendrye area. We have been very affected, with our skilled trades not seeing as much work. That comes part and parcel with the $1.9 billion that was cut from infrastructure and health care. I think we need tax reform and I really think I can roll up my sleeves and work on this if I'm in."

The La Verendrye riding stretches from New Bothwell and Ste. Elizabeth on the west side to Sprague and Middlebro on the east side and is currently represented by Conservative Dennis Smook.

Mitchell says through her business and volunteer work in the region, she already knows many residents of the constituency and would love to serve them in the legislature.

"Having been a business and a company working in this area, I've actually bought, sold in and had customers in most of these communities, so I do have connections already. People are telling me their concerns over the health care and the wait times, doctors in Vita with the ER (Emergency Room) closure there since 2012. I can address those concerns and bring them forward to help our constituents."
