The winner of  Wednesday’s by-election in the Village of St. Pierre says he is ready to get to work.

Justin Kehler figures they had about 25 percent voter turnout yesterday and says he is grateful for the opportunity.

"I am very honoured and very humbled for being voted in," expresses Kehler.

Kehler notes as he was going door to door, leading up to the by-election, there seemed to be a lot of interest around town.

"There was a lot of interest, it’s been a long time since people were able to vote here in town. For the most part, it was a very positive experience," he adds.

Mayor Raymond Maynard says he is thrilled to have Kehler on board. Maynard adds Kehler is already involved in various committees in town including the arena committee and say he will be a great fit on council.

"It’s awesome. They were two good candidates and, in my mind, it didn’t matter who got on," Maynard says, "Having said that, I’m totally confident that Justin will do an excellent job. He’s young, he’s got a young family, he’s got fresh ideas and I think this is going to be a huge asset for the village."

Maynard says now that all the seats at the table are filled, he looks forward to sitting down with council and have a strategic planning session in the coming months.

Kehler's first council meeting is next Wednesday
