A Steinbach mayoral candidate says he has a comprehensive election plan, written about two months ago, which details support for seniors in the community.

During a week in which commitments have been made to seniors in Steinbach, John Fehr warns residents to be careful not to accept empty promises from politicians.

"I wish I could share the optimism of one of my opponents' plan," says Fehr. "But when someone doesn't divulge any details it's really nothing more than an empty promise and holds very little merit. When you buy a car you wouldn't accept that and neither should our taxpayers."

Fehr says candidates need to be transparent.

"To say that I will provide details if I am elected means there is no plan yet," notes Fehr.

Further to that, Fehr says a mayor cannot approve change alone.

"You need four votes," he adds. "I have stressed that many times in this campaign."

Meanwhile, Steinbach mayoral candidate Earl Funk says he has spent a lot of time thinking and deliberating about the seniors' announcement made earlier this week by one of the candidates.

"I would like to just caution the voter" stresses Funk. "Whenever a candidate makes a promise like this without showing the end, how this is going to happen, where the money will come from, it tends to raise questions in my heart about integrity and transparency."
