More changes are underway at Victoria Plaza in Steinbach. Justin Schinkel of Schinkel Properties says a couple of restaurants are moving to different locations at the strip mall.

"We're really excited that KFC has moved into its new location. The drive-thru is open. They no longer have a Taco Bell but it's a very nice building that's brand new on the inside. In KFC's old spot, Irori Barbecue House is going to be moving there. They're going to have a fresh new face and more seating capacity to serve Korean barbecue to all of us."

Meanwhile, Booster Juice in Victoria Plaza opened last fall causing the move of Lecoka and the Pita Hut to other locations within the mall.

Schinkel expects we will be seeing more franchise outlets coming to Steinbach in the coming year after the latest census put the population above the 15,000 mark.

"We're finally hitting the population size that these bigger companies are looking at. Often these big companies require X number of population before they start to even consider some of these cities. I think we've gotten there and the economics of the area are quite good so there are a couple of factors here that are leading to some of these franchises aggressively looking at Steinbach. Some of that is even us going out and trying to put together the franchisee with some real estate. There are a few moving parts here that try to get some of these businesses to town."

Schinkel says, over at Brookdale Mall along Main Street, some stores have moved out but adds it's too soon to say what is being planned there.
