Steinbach Mayor Chris Goertzen says traffic enforcement was a common theme at Friday's Open Door.

"We've heard a lot about traffic issues and traffic enforcement and the general driving habits of citizens in our city," notes Goertzen.

Goertzen says there were some specific areas that were highlighted where more enforcement is needed.

He notes whether it is u-turns or motorists being aware of people using pedestrian corridors, pedestrian safety is very important to the city.

"We are going to ask the RCMP to step up enforcement of pedestrian corridors," says Goertzen. "Making sure that people are being safe, our pedestrians are safe and that drivers are heeding to pedestrians in the appropriate way."

Furthermore, he says people need to be extra cautious in winter when the ground is slippery and there are mounds of snow restricting visibility.

"We need people to slow down and we need people to be cautious and aware of their surroundings," he says.

Goertzen says crews have been working hard at eliminating snow from boulevards so that visibility is better for drivers. But he says caution is the word of the month.
