The Rural Municipality of Hanover is now reporting four road closures as the result of overland flooding. Road 32E, a mile and a half north of Highway 52 and Road 30N, one mile west of Highway 12 were closed last week. One mile of Road 36E, east of Pansy is now also closed. Also closed is Road 30N between Road 35E and Road 36E.

"One word I'd like to get out there for motorists within the municipality would be definitely take caution when travelling on gravel roads," says Works and Operations Manager Wes Fehr. "Because these washouts are popping up in many different areas."

Last week, Fehr reported there were some flooded basements in Randolph and Mitchell, but he says he hasn't learned of any new incidents in the last couple of days.

Fehr notes crews are logging a lot of hours with steaming culverts.

"We're still putting in double shifts most days with most of our guys," notes Fehr. "They are getting quite tired and burnt out but they are still willing to put in the time and the effort to get it done."

He notes on Monday they started to notice some culverts that had opened up on their own. Fehr says while a positive sign if a culvert opens in the wrong area it could cause more flooding downstream.

Right now he says the ideal forecast is melting temperatures during the day and then cooling enough at night to slow the melt. But he says in many ways their crews would love it if the weather would warm up enough to just get the thaw over and done with.

According to Fehr, there are pockets of localized flooding throughout the municipality. He says flooding is not widespread. And, he says they are still anticipating water coming in from the east.

"We haven't seen much water moving there as of yet," notes Fehr. "Usually that takes awhile before that water starts to move because it's all laying in the bush area."

The municipality invites residents to contact their office with any emergency flood concerns. The number to call is 1-204-346-7129. Fehr says the municipality wants to be informed of any water being held back that is now causing issues. These issues could be related to buildings, yards or even just water running across a driveway.
