The Chair of the Bethesda Auxiliary Book Faire says last week's sale surpassed expectations.

The Bethesda Auxiliary holds two book sales each year; a spring sale and a fall sale. The spring sale is the larger of the two. Ruth Heppner says an average spring sale will bring in between $15,000 and $17,000. This year they took in about $21,000. Heppner says that is nearly a record.

"There was another year, 2010 where we had around twenty-one thousand dollars," explains Heppner. "It just boils down to a couple of dollars here and there, which one is the highest."

Heppner says though the final tally is a bit of a surprise, there was steady traffic throughout the sale and they had anticipated a good profit. She says they are not sure why sales were up this year.

"Weather was too cold to be out in the garden, yards," notes Heppner. "Maybe that was one factor."

Money from the sale will go towards the purchase of a specialized bathtub for Bethesda Place in Steinbach. Those units cost about $19,000. Heppner says the additional money raised last week will be kept aside for another project.

Heppner says she is amazed and pleased by the support felt at last week's sale.
