Ernie Neufeld in front of Neufeld Garage.

A long time business in Randolph has closed its doors. Unofficially the doors of Neufeld Garage closed October 31. Owner Ernie Neufeld says the garage has been in operation for more than 60 years serving area residents. He notes the current building was constructed over the course of several years from 1947 to 1949. It began with his father and uncle who partnered to start Neufeld Brothers Garage. The two brothers caught the repair bug from their father who owned a blacksmith shop near Niverville and was doing a lot of repairs. The brothers tried it out and decided to go on their own. Since then the garage has become a local gathering place. People pick up their mail, talk about local happenings and catch up with their neighbours. Meantime there is still a post office in the garage which will be moving. Neufeld says Canada Post is looking for an alternate site but may decide to go with lock boxes on the street outside. Area resident Karen Peters says the garage has been the hub of the community for many years and residents will notice the closure of this amazing family business.
