It was a full weekend of family activities in New Bothwell as they held their annual winter carnival.

Organizer Chantelle Dueck says the goal with the winter carnival is to bring the people of New Bothwell together.

"It's really about uniting our community and getting new people in the community meeting with people who have lived here for years and just trying to unite different ages, different people, just coming together to celebrate our community."

Silent auction prizes on displayDueck says they kicked off the carnival on Friday evening with a Cribbage tournament and a movie night. She says on Saturday they held a free pancake breakfast, kids activities, and bingo. She notes the day was a lot of fun.

"Bingo is always fun. The scrambles, watching the kids run for the candy is pretty good, we also have an adult grocery scramble, so watching the adults run on the ice to get groceries is kind of a fun way to watch them grocery shop, and the fireworks is always a nice way to close out the day."

Dueck says they had fire pits with benches to keep people warm as they watched fireworks Saturday evening. She says people were also welcome to watch the fireworks while skating on the outdoor ice. She says there was a silent auction on Saturday with all of the money going to recreation in New Bothwell.

"We are fundraising to do a toboggan run and hopefully, we can build that this year, we are also upgrading out playground equipment and trying to do a natural playground on the yard, that is what we are fundraising for."
