After a tight race Wednesday night, Paul Saindon was elected as reeve for the RM of Ste. Anne.

“Right now I’m glad it’s over and I have the people who supported me to thank for this,” says Saindon “and hopefully I can accomplish all of the things I set out to be in charge of.”

With 449 votes to his name, Saindon beat his nearest competitor Don Morin by 119 votes. Morin's total was 330 votes and the other two candidates, Shirley Hiebert and Robert Desautels, were close behind him reaching 321 and 312 votes respectively.

Having served for the previous three terms as councilor for the municipality, Saindon notes running for Reeve was a learning experience for him: “It was a long dragged out campaign that made me realize how widely spread and diversified this RM is. Saindon adds that this door knocking done while campaigning did prove quite valuable.

As Saindon moves ahead with his new role, he wants to bring an increasing clarity to various complicated issues in his municipality, such as the building permit process.

However, Saindon indicates his first priority is meeting his newly elected council and immediately establishing efficient methods of communication between them and the municipality they represent.
